A rather late start at making videos of our construction and renovation work on our home, a 100 year-old abbey in central Germany, as well as general videos about cars, life in and around our home village, cooking, coffee making and, well, I have a lot of plans. Thanks for watching!
1954 Yazoo Mower Undergoes Bloodletting and Slips No More
The forward clutch on my 70 year old mower was slipping and after much sweating and worrying I realized that I had caused the problem myself.
Here is the take-home message: If you have an old Yazoo mower with twin-clutchpack transaxle, take note: Overfilling the transaxle with oil will cause the clutches to slip. I sucked out about 100 ml of oil and all was well again.

An August Morning

Come join me in our back yard for a few minutes of talk. Due to the extreme (worldwide) drought and high temperatures there is constant danger of fire, even here in Germany. Nonetheless, we enjoy our gardens and spend time out there in the early morning and late afternoon when it is not so hot.

A Drive to the Green Waste Depot in Hesse, Germany
Переглядів 3352 роки тому
This is a video I made in May of this year, but we have been so busy I did not have time to upload it until now. It's another driving video, and as the title says, a short trip to the green-waste depot near our home. I will try to upload more videos in the near future. I am finding that my time and energy are dwindling with my age. I guess that shouldn't be a surprise, but it's sobering. Music:...
White Christmas in Hesse, Central Germany
Переглядів 4052 роки тому
This is the first time we have had a white Christmas in many, many years. About 15 cm (6") of snow fell on Christmas eve, late at night and continued on in the morning. We went out so that Halgrim could enjoy the snow, but he seemed irritated by it and not all that excited. Here are about 6 minutes of driving and watching Karin and Halgrim. Thanks for watching.

We had some very unpleasant weather with lots of rain and wind and now the temperature has sunk to 20 °F, so everything is covered with lovely frost. Come along with us on a ride to take Halgrim (our 3 year old GSD) for a walk and then go shopping in Alsfeld (Hesse).
A Saturday in July. We are safe from flooding
Переглядів 3173 роки тому
This is a bit of a potpourri of our family activities on Saturday, mowing with the 1954 60-inch Yazoo mower and Halgrim having fun with is wading pool. There is also a bit of discussion of where the terrible floods are in Germany and that they are 200 km from where we live. We are safe and enjoying nice weather.

The 1954 Yazoo Mower in June 2021
Переглядів 6183 роки тому
We have had some more requests for a mowing video with the 1954 Yazoo YR60, so here it is. Sit back and enjoy the sound of the 14 hp 1-cyl Wisconsin AGND as I mow the lawn in the back yard. The mower came to Germany after WWII to mow the golf courses that the US military was using. Music: Moore and Gardnere - Chinese Blues (1916, George Gershwin piano roll)

Nice video!
Hey Bruce. Will you post some gameplay videos?
Very interesting. Engine speed sounds similar to the 16hp single cylinder Briggs on my 1981 model 35 PTO-B MM. I have been wondering if it was normal. I do wish it had a little more RPM speed, but mows well enough.
I run mine just above idle as the gearing of the mower is such that if I run it faster in high gear it would be dangerous. Low gear is so low that it makes no sense on my property except when I have to enter and exit very tight places and slow speed is not a problem.
Thank you so much for these videos with so much detail of your work.
Cool video. Ty
Fantastic video upload! thanks for sharing this...
That is very kind. Thank you,
Yep, great machine. I have a YR48 with a 16hp single cylinder cast iron B&S. Some FYI for those new to these mowers, you can get AG tires for them if your lawn tires spin too much. Check the trans oil by loosening the bolt on top of the tranny and removing the large flat steel circle cover and the large rubber washer then look inside it. If the oil is not clear, (first time I checked mine it looked like chocolate milk) there is a 3/8" square pipe thread plug directly under the trans to drain the oil. Refill it with 30wt motor oil, though some of the newer Yazoo's take 40wt, fill it so the gears at the top are halfway in the oil. Mine takes nearly 5 qts. Mine had terrible traction and couldn't climb anything till I changed the tranny oil, now it's fine. Get used to using the brake a LOT. But be careful not to stomp on it. Use it gently but use it. You'll need to use it to keep from running into things because the steering is a little tricky and its forward and backward motions can be a bit too fast at times.
Thanks for the info. I rebuilt the transaxle about 25 years ago and keep it full, but normally not overfilled, with 30 weight. The brakes on my mower were removed before I got it more than 30 years ago. I have been mowing with it for all that time and if I do need to brake I just very judiciously pull backwards on the "shift" lever. Fortunately, the ground here is relatively flat.
I grew up in the 90's on this exact mower except it had a B&S 16hp single cylinder. It's probably still out there somewhere. I recall no brakes, had to grab the fwd/rev lever if you needed to stop really quick. Dad didn't get rid of it until he got a grasshopper zero turn.
I just watched the newer video on the 1954 Yazoo front deck mower. Its obvious you take proper care of your equipment as well as your lawn. Beautiful homestead!
Thanks for watching. I have owned that mower since 1987 and I try my best to keep it good running shape, but I don't have the energy to beautify it, so it does look a bit ragged. It's a great machine!
My dad became a yazoo dealer in 1976. At that time, 80% of their first year's (1945) mowers were still in operation. I, my brother, and my son, still run them today. 2run the wisconsin twin TJD, and 1 a kohler.
They are brilliant machines! Thanks for sharing your experience.
That Yazoo is as tough and enduring as you are, Bruce. Glad to hear it's back on the job.
Thanks, Dale! She's a keeper for sure! 😄
That's great to see you have the Yazoo back in shape for mowing. Very smart to remember how a high oil level will affect the drive system. You've done a great job keeping the Yazoo going all these years. Thanks and take care Bruce
Thanks, Lloyd! I was really sad because it looked like it was time for parting, but all is well again...aside from the tank. 😉
The beauty of the solution, in this case, is that it really only cost you some thinking time, to realize what the issue was, how you could rectify the problem, and then some contorting and intimate contact with the machine. Who doesn`t love a No-Parts-Required fix ? A very easy mistake to make putting in a bit too much oil, but glad to hear that that was all that was wrong. Always enjoy your content. Thanks for sharing. May the Boschek household be blessed with great Summer weather, and great health to enjoy every moment of your outdoor experiences in the garden.
Thanks so much, Stan! It was one of the "dumb moments" when I thought, if some oil is good, more will be better! 😁
sweet, that is a really cool machine Bruce. Time for pie and coffee.... maybe
Thanks! I really like that ol' girl. In our home it is always pie time! 😋
A 'Marshall Plan' mower? Never knew mowers could be cured by putting leeches on them.
A leech a day keeps the slipping at bay!
👍👍
👍👍😊
Glad to hear that you got her going Bruce.
Thanks! I'm delighted, too. I'm quite attached to the old girl. 😊
The towns and countryside is so beautiful Bruce. It is very different from what I see around here. Thanks and take care. PS I subscribed to James channel.
That is part of the reason that I love living here. People take pride in their property and homes. Good! You''ll enjoy James' content, I'm sure!
Good morning from Michigan .• 7 AM • This past Monday • Train Room Pam had a right knee replacement • The physical therapist is coming to our house today 🚂
Thanks so much, Gary. Give Pam my best regards. Knees usually take a little longer to settle down than hips, but in the end she will be so glad to be rid of the pain.
It is just storybook beautiful there Bruce. Fingers crossed the Yahoo holds on. I have looked at the robot mowers but just not sure how well it would do overall. Thanks for the update and wish you all a great week
Thanks, Lloyd! We love our yards and our dogs. 😊 Many of our neighbors have robot mowers and are generally quite satisfied with them, but they also have big, open fields rather than an English park, like ours. Kress is supposed to have some very good robots for complex gardens, but $$$, of course. Best wishes and have a great week.
Always a pleasure to see new content from you, Mister Boschek. Was reading earlier Sunday about boxwood blight, and boxwood bug problems in the Ontario, Canada, corner of the globe. Is the blight an issue in your parts, too ? A wee bit of information about boxwood blight can be found on Wikipedia. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boxwood_blight
Thanks Stan. We don't yet have blight here, but it has done enormous damage in Bavaria (the southeastern part of Germany. Ours just got frostbit. :-) Nice to hear from you.
The yard looks nice, Bruce. Hello from Kim and me 🙂
Hello Dale! Great to hear from you. Thanks for dropping in. Hugs to you and Kim!
Gorgeous property Bruce...great to hear you always enjoy your comments on Facebook 😊 take care my friend
Thanks Terry. Enjoyed seeing you with the snooker gang, too. 🙂
great house garden and dog.
Thanks!
Beautiful day! Best to you and Karin
Nice to hear from you, Matt! Thanks, we're enjoying ourselves. Hope you are well.
So look forward to seeing another Bruce Boschek Video. Love them. Daniel from Southern Oregon. Just Turned 64 in April. Suffer from Arthritis Daily. But hanging in there. Thanks for Sharing.
Thanks Dan! I appreciate your dropping in. I have been having a rough time with arthritis, but hope it will get a little better again soon. It comes and goes.
so nice to hear from you. thank you for a look around your beautiful home and grounds
Wow! Great to hear from you, Ken. Glad you enjoyed the little tour. Thanks for looking in.
Beautiful Day Bruce. Thanks for bringing us out to play with Bella. Hope You and Karin are well!
Thanks, Chef! Halgrim and Karin were out on a walk around the lake. Glad you could join us.
Very very nice environment to exist in. I too have the "Cardiac insufficiency" problems and am trying to remedy them to some extent as to get out and enjoy a bit. I am glad to see you out and enjoying the spring. Take care and thank you for sharing.
Thanks! Great to hear from you, Maynard! A bunch of meds make the condition less uncomfortable. I miss your vids, but certainly understand. Glad you could drop by and take a look.
Good to see the garden looking verdant in the bright sun. I have heard varied tales about 'robots', not sure one would cope with your lawns, too many things to distract one. My neighbour has a robot vacuum cleaner that found it's way out into the garden, I don't know how the controls work, some sort of 'Alexa' voice control possibly, she was shouting at it, it didn't seem to like being called stupid!
😂 That's hilarious! 😁
Thanks, Harry. I need you to come fix the seat on the Yahoo again. It's falling apart! 🙂 Hope you are well.
Thank you for this video!
Noticed your comment on a Fallout game love to see it hope all is good and you’re enjoying your time!
nice place but theres no people and no children.
😄 It was mid winter in a virtually uninhabited, agricultural area.
Greetings from Finland
Kiitos! Ystävällisin terveisin.
@@BruceBoschek Kiitos samoin!
Hope you are still ripping video games Bruce, best wishes from Massachusetts
War, war never changes. Yep, still wandering the Wasteland and other planets, etc. Thanks!! PS, I used to spend lots of time in Boston and surrounding area, back when Legal Seafood was a shack and a lobster on a paper plate cost $5 on Nahant Beech. Now there are just super mutants and raiders all over the place and a Nuka Cola costs 15 caps.

Hope you're doing well my Friend, haven't heard from you in a spell
Thanks! Still kickin'. Not a lot of energy for videos, but maybe in the spring.
@@BruceBoschek Good to hear from you my friend!
Such a wonderful piano! By the will of fate my wife and I have got grand piano (or "royalett" (maybe it's not correct spelling)) Shröder was made at 1873 year with quite similar action mechanic. That's some mystic and wonders of life!
England, some areas have been taken over by the refugees and is dangerous for English people to even go in those areas.
i certainly enjoyed your video. Beautiful grounds, beautiful wife, beautiful dog, beautiful life.I connected to your patch of the Universe via Elin's Rusty Beauties. I really like your editing style. Hi Bruce, I just acquired a Yazoo just like yours. Do you have any pictures of the belts, and possibly sizing? It currently has no belts.
Nice!!
